General information

Akaroa Akaroa is a beautiful seaside village with a unique French flavour. Located on the Banks Peninsula, Akaroa was first discovered by the Ngai Tahu tribe in the 1770's and later founded as a French colony in 1840.

The French heritage can be easily seen with streets still bearing French names and many of the charming cottages remaining. There is a relaxed atmosphere with NZ holiday goers, visitors and locals alike enjoying all the cafes, shops, wine, coffee and sun on offer.

The blue waters of the harbour set the scene for some great water based activities including fishing, sailing and the ever popular swimming with dolphins.
