Cathedral Square
General information
The Cathedral Square is the heart of Christchurch. For many years this area was a busy intersection but much of it has been closed to traffic, allowing it to thrive as an area for tourists and locals alike to enjoy activities, events, sightseeing and the general beauty of the area.
Christchurch's namesake, the Christ Church, is the iconic Anglican cathedral that stands tall alongside the chalice shaped sculpture that was built in 2000.
The Cathedral Square is always busy with buskers, street performers, events, activities and more, it's one of New Zealand's most recognisable venues and a great spot for visitors to learn more about Christchurch.
